What shall we use to define and measure our successes?
- Perhaps it is more than 360 Kansas State Champions (both boys and girls and in near equal numbers) from our gym over the past 30 years.
- Maybe it is the 6 Regional Champions?
- What about a long time student who went on to train with Béla Károlyi and won a World Championship in Athens?
- Or the 5 time State All Around Gymnastics Champion who changed sports and won the Olympic Gold Medal in weight lifting in Sydney, Australia?
- Maybe success is in the gymnast who switched to diving to remain in state for college and won a National NCAA Diving Championship and a USA National title?
- Does the first Perfect 10.0 on Vault in OU and Big Xll history qualify?
- Is it collegiate scholarships and appointments to compete at the US Naval Academy?
- Maybe it's the hundreds of Team Trophies, Plaques, and Banners placed all over the gym?
These are some of our success stories and we applaud all of our former students who accomplished these goals. But success can also be defined by the thousands of students who did not necessarily have any natural or God given talents. These students participated and walked away with a better sense of self worth and as a better person having learned the value of hard work and dedication. They learned that while failing was acceptable, failing to try was not.
The biggest compliment we receive is when a former student comes back to us and signs their children up in our program. Every time that happens we realize, and are reminded that, to us, that is the true meaning of success. |
